Switching out seasonal clothes saves space.
Seasonal closets are a good idea for anyone with limited closet space. The basic concept is that you divide your clothes into warm and cold weather wear and only place the current season's clothing in the closet. The other clothing goes into a storage area until needed. When the seasons change, it's also time to change out your seasonal closet clothes. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Look at each clothing item in your closet and identify any that can transition into the next season. For example, tank tops can be layered under sweaters in the winter. Hang all of these items at one end of the closet.
2. Remove all other clothing items and place them on a nearby bed, table or even the floor if it is clean. Remove the hangers from each item and place the hangers into an empty clothes hamper or plastic storage bin to keep them neat.
3. Fold each item of clothing up neatly and as flat as possible.
4. Go to the area that you store your off-season clothing in, such as an extra closet or storage bins. Remove the off season clothing from it and replace it with the clothing you folded.
5. Smell the clothing that you just removed from storage to ensure it does not smell like mildew or moth balls. If needed, place the clothes in a washing machine filled with cold water and 1 cup of white vinegar. Add the amount of laundry detergent indicated on the bottle. Tumble dry the items in a dryer when done or hang and allow them to air dry.
6. Hang each clothing item up on a sturdy clothes hanger and place it into the closet. Hang like items near each other, such as dresses, pants, shirts, suits, etc.
7. Look at the shoes in the closet and decide which ones need to be stored for the season. Collect these shoes and place them into another plastic storage bin. Remove any shoes from storage that are appropriate for the new season and hang them in a shoe bag or place them on a shoe rack.
