Storage & Wardrobe Solutions

Adding hanging shelves to your closet can increase its vertical storage space.

Homeowners must often deal with limited closet space or a small bedroom that doesn't have much space for clothing storage. For anyone with an extensive wardrobe, it can be a frustrating problem that leads to clutter and disorganization. Fortunately, there are several solutions if your bedroom provides limited clothing storage, so you don't have to worry about where you're going to store your latest purchases when the next sale hits. Does this Spark an idea?

Portable Closet

A portable closet is an ideal storage option if your bedroom does not have a closet or lacks sufficient closet space. These closets are typically made of vinyl or canvas that is fitted over a plastic frame. Some portable closets zipper shut, while others feature doors. You can also find some that have drawers at the bottom for storing folded clothing. Because the closet is portable, you can also move it from room to room if necessary, giving you adequate storage wherever you need it.

Rolling Rack

A rolling rack is similar to a portable closet in that it can easily be moved from room to room, but it does not feature closed storage. As the name implies, it is simply a rack that clothing can be hung on, with wheels on the bottom for easy transport. While a rolling rack may appear too cluttered for a bedroom, it is an effective option for a spare room or walk-in closet. Because it offers open storage, you can easily find clothing items as well, which can make getting dressed in the morning easier.

Plastic Storage Boxes

Plastic storage boxes can be used to store folded clothing items. They are a versatile storage option because they may be stacked on a closet floor or shelf or even placed under your bed. Because they are clear, you can easily see the contents as well, so you can keep track of your clothing. However, these boxes are better suited for storing seasonal wardrobe items since they lend themselves to out-of-the-way storage. In addition to plastic boxes, you may also use canvas storage boxes to organize clothing and wardrobe items.

Hanging Shelves

If your bedroom closet is small, maximizing the available space allows you to store more items. A hanging shelf system provides additional vertical storage for folded items in your closet so you can store sweaters, sweatshirts and other bulky wardrobe items. These systems typically feature a strap that wraps around your closet's rod to allow the shelves to hang down. You can purchase vinyl hanging shelves that zipper shut to keep dust and debris off your clothing, or a shoe organizer than fastens around the rod in a similar manner.
