Saniflo System Work

Install an extra bathroom in the basement with a Saniflo system.

There's an old saying that, "You can never be too rich or too thin." Add to those words of wisdom, "You can never have too many bathrooms." Install an extra toilet in a basement, laundry room, closet or similar space with a Saniflo system. All of the company's products discharge waste into a septic or city sewer system. Does this Spark an idea?

Toilets

The type of pump used in a Saniflo toilet depends on the product line. Macerating pumps handle only toilet paper and human waste in the flush. Saniflo products with macerating pumps include the Sanitop, Sanipro, Sanistar, Sanicompact, Sanipack and Saniplus. Grinder pumps handle not only toilet paper and human waste in the flush, but also tampons and sanitary napkins. Saniflo grinder pump products include Sanigrind, Sanibest and Sanicubic Classic.

Macerating Toilets

Saniflo's macerating toilet systems work by breaking toilet paper and human waste into pieces. The system includes a blade that rotates and cuts toilet paper while liquefying feces. The water flushing into the system mixes with the waste and the force of the flush pumps it into the septic or sewer system in the form of a slurry. These systems should last between 10 and 15 years, or longer.

Operation

After flushing the toilet, effluent is discharged via gravity through a rear spigot into the macerator. Once the effluent reaches a predetermined level, a micro-switch in the macerator's pressure chamber turns on. Ordinary flapper type check valves on the side inlets briefly close, while the macerator blade turns at 3,600 revolutions per minute, reducing waste into liquid within four seconds. The waste pumps into the septic or sewer system through a 1-inch-diameter standard pipe. Once all of the effluent pumps out, the micro-switch automatically turns off. Non-return valves in the macerator keep any back flow of effluent from draining back into the system. Once the toilet fills up with water again, the system is ready for another use.

Grinder Pumps

For heavier-duty applications, the Saniflo dual grinder stainless steel pump liquifies waste, feminine hygiene products and other small objects. Generally installed for commercial rather than residential use, the effluent pumps out through a 1.5-inch discharge pump in a similar manner to the macerator toilets.
