Install A Narrow Hall Linen Closet

Install a linen closet in a hall for extra storage.

Linen closets are a convenient spot for keeping blankets, bedding and towels. If your home is without a linen closet, or if your closet is already full, a handy option is installing a narrow linen closet in a hall. This solution is unconventional, but if your home has very limited storage space, it’s wise to utilize every square inch. By using some creative techniques, you can install a hall linen closet easily, without the expense of knocking down walls. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Begin by space planning. Taking all factors into account before any redecorating begins will help to eliminate problems later. Decide where you want to install the closet. You’ll want to avoid blocking access to any doors, unless the room has another way in. Decide how large the closet should be by considering what will be kept in it-just linen, or other items such as holiday decorations, sports gear, winter coats, and anything else you have that requires storing.

2. Put up a room divider. In lieu of building a wall, using a room divider to separate the linen closet from the rest of the hallway is an easier and cheaper option. It’s also a great idea if you’re planning to use the space as a linen closet only temporarily. Use whatever best fits the style of the home’s d cor and will effectively conceal linens and other stored items from view. Consider an opaque hanging curtain, bookshelf or bookcase, folding screen or movable wall.

3. Store linen on stackable racks of shelves or shelf stands.

Bring in storage furniture. Keeping in mind the confined area of the hallway, you’ll need to use space-saving pieces. Put up free-standing stackable racks of shelves or shelf stands, which you can find in home furnishing or home improvement stores. These can easily be relocated if the area will one day no longer be a closet. There are also corner shelf units, which enable you to utilize often-ignored corner space. And don’t forget shelves, which let you turn walls into storage, eliminating the need to use any floor space.
