Broken toilet flanges can be repaired with closet flange repair kits.
A closet flange (known also as a toilet flange) is the final piece of the sewer line that is screwed or bolted to the bathroom floor. A wax ring is placed on top of it, and the hole on the toilet base then rests on top of the wax ring. If the flange lip containing screw/bolt holes breaks, angled metal pieces called spanner flanges can be placed over the broken area on the flange and screwed into place. The closet flange repair kits consist of either one or two spanner flanges. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Remove the wax ring sitting on top of the flange by scraping it away with a knife.
2. Locate the broken area of the closet flange and remove the screws or bolts--also remove the vertical toilet bolt that holds the toilet in position if it is part of the broken piece.
3. Push the vertical toilet bolt through the hole in the spanner flange and rest the spanner flange on the top of the closet flange so that its center rests over the broken area.
4. Insert the bolts or screws into the spanner flange holes, through the closet flange and into the floor. A new wax ring can now be placed on top of the closet flange, and the toilet installed.
