Store Inkjet Cartridges

Store your new and used cartridges properly.

Anyone who has ever bought replacement cartridges for an inkjet printer knows how expensive they can be. Depending on the brand and the model, replacement ink cartridges can cost as much as the printer itself, or even more. With costs so high, you need to store those extra ink cartridges properly. Having an extra ink cartridge or two on hand is a good idea, especially if you print a lot of documents, but storing those extra cartridges improperly can render them useless.

Instructions

1. Store new inkjet cartridges in a cool, dark place until they are used. A closet or shelf in an air conditioned part of the home is a good choice. Avoid storing inkjet cartridges in hot or humid areas. Heat can cause the cartridges to leak, while humidity can affect the consistency and quality of the ink.

2. Seal a partially used cartridge in a zipper storage bag. Store only one inkjet cartridge in each bag.

3. Wet a small piece of sponge, large enough to cover the bottom of the inkjet cartridge. Wring the sponge out until it is only damp.

4. Place the sponge in the bag with the inkjet cartridge. Seal the bag and store it in a dark, cool location like a shelf or closet in an air-conditioned room.
