A Diy Simple Closet

Make your closet redesign simple.

If you are looking for a very simple closet to build on your own, consider a single rod and shelf design. It is about as simplistic as it gets, but should hold everything you need with room to spare. This closet redesign enhances your older closet and adds additional shelving on top for other items and boxes. It takes about an hour to install and the cost is relatively low, anywhere from $25 to $35. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Clear out your clothing and items. Remove the old closet rod and shelves by unscrewing the closet rod shelf brackets with a screwdriver. Take everything remaining out of the closet.

2. Measure 45 inches from the floor along the side wall of the closet with a tape measure. Make a mark with a pencil. Draw a level line use a carpenter's level at this mark. Repeat this step on the other side of the wall.

3. Measure the interior width of the side walls. Cut a 4-inch-wide board to this length with a power saw.

4. Mount one board on each side wall so the top edge sits flush with your line. Install the boards with wall screws mounting each to a stud in the wall. Use a stud finder to locate the studs on your wall, or knock on the wall with your knuckles until you find where the studs are located.

5. Mount two closet brackets in the middle of each board. Use the screws provided with the brackets and a screwdriver. Measure to find the center of each board.

6. Measure the length between your closet brackets. Cut a wood dowel to this length. Set it inside the brackets.

7. Measure the distance between the two closet side walls. Cut a 12-inch-wide board to this measurement. Fit the board in place on top of the two boards already installed in the closet. This is your top shelf. Screw the board in place using 1-inch screws and a screwdriver.
