Instructions
1. Sort through clothes in your closet and discard anything you haven't worn in a year. Have a pile for clothes going to charity and another for old clothes to use as rags or to throw away. Look through dresser drawers and toss out old socks, underwear and hose.
2. Toss old spices and expired cans of food from your pantry. Clean out kitchen cupboards and throw away or donate cookware, dishes or beverage glasses you don't use.
3. Throw away old paint and other items that accumulate in your utility room. Go through your linen closet and toss old towels or sheets, or use them for rags. Look over your stacks of books, old DVDs and CDs and donate those you don't use to your local library or Goodwill.
4. Go to your local supermarket and ask if they will give you small- to medium-sized boxes you can use for storage. Most groceries discard the boxes food comes in. Fill the boxes with items you cannot live without, but do not want to clutter the home. Store the boxes in the attic, basement or garage. Keep shoe boxes to store smaller, delicate items and store them under the bed or on shelves in the closet. Store seasonal items in plastic zippered storage bags that sheets or blankets come in.
5. Clean out the cabinets under your bathroom or kitchen sink. Toss out almost empty bottles of cleaner and old sponges. Look in the medicine cabinet and discard medications that have passed the expiration date. Clean out your makeup drawer and throw away old mascara and eye makeup that could harbor bacteria and cause an eye infection.
