DIY Closet Installation
If you have additional space in your bedroom that you could turn into a closet, you can easily construct one. People with experience and skills in carpentry find closet making and installation quite simple. The task involves building closet frames and fastening them to the wall, and then installing the closet doors. Once you customize the interior with rods, shelves and racks, all that's left is organizing your belongings. Does this Spark an idea?
Getting Started
Every project requires planning. Determine the specific material you want to use for your new closet, such as metal or wood, or use both for a classy metallic-wood-style closet. Once you choose the material, start taking measurements on the wall.
Closet Frame
The size of the closet frame obviously depends on the available space. According to HomeTips.com, an ideal frame is made from two-by-fours, which allow the inside depth to be at least 27 inches. You have two options for constructing the frame-on-the-spot building and pre-assembled closet. You build an on-the-spot closet right in its place, trimming the frame later, as it is difficult to make an accurate-sized frame without having the entire closet in place.
A pre-assembled closet involves building the closet frame flat on the ground and then raising it into position. If your room has a clear, large area, you can nail the frame to the floor for easy handling. Mark the appropriate positions of sole plate-the bottom wood plank fitted on the frame-and the top plate, the plank on top of the frame.
Closet Walls
Install the walls by lifting them into the positioned place. Adjust each wall properly, so you can nail it to the area. Nail the walls at the sole plate and the header, the horizontally placed plank right below the top plate. Once fixed into the place, cover the walls to match the room's decor.
Rod and Racks
To make the most of your new closet space, use double hang rods, which give you top and bottom rows for hanging your clothes. The number of shelves, shoe racks and drawer space depends on the amount of space you have and the contents of your wardrobe.
