A Closet To A Bedroom

Some bedrooms lack adequate closet space.

Storage is something it seems we can never get enough of. Closets, therefore, are essential. However, some bedrooms don't have enough closet space, and some rooms that have been converted into bedrooms don't have any closets at all. If either is the case in your home, a convenient and creative solution is adding a closet to the bedroom. You can do this easily, even if you don't have the expertise or the budget to knock down walls and build one. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Large bedrooms can accommodate a wardrobe or two.

Bring in storage furniture. Use an armoire, wardrobe or free-standing cabinet to instantly add space for storing things. Large bedrooms can accommodate a wardrobe or two, but in a smaller bedroom in which there is space for only one small armoire, make good use of its available space. Look for models with shelves, multiple hanging bars, drawers and shoe racks for keeping boots and shoes, winter coats, sports gear, clothing and other items organized. Place things on the top of the piece of furniture as well.

2. Bring in clothes racks for a makeshift closet.

Put a makeshift closet in the bedroom. Stand stackable shelf racks or clothes racks, which you can find in stores such as Target or Wal-Mart, behind a room divider such as a hanging curtain or a folding screen to close the area off from the rest of the bedroom. This improvised closet not only adds much-needed storage but can also be placed anywhere in the room where you need it, whether an empty space beside a window or an unutilized corner.

3. Buy a bed with drawers underneath.

Make good use of furniture already in the room. With a few clever techniques, you can find as much square footage as you'd have in a closet. Putting the bed up on risers creates room for storage underneath. Or, buy a bed with shelves and storage compartments in the headboard and drawers in the bed frame. Pull large furniture away from walls a bit to store items behind them. If you want a desk in the bedroom, consider a desk-hutch combination with shelves, cubbyholes, drawers, magazine racks and display areas.
