If you have a closet full of jeans you no longer wear, you may be able to turn those unwanted clothes into cash. Consignment stores help people make money by selling their merchandise, including business attire, sportswear and jeans. People with clothes to consign can simply make an appointment, leave their jeans at the store and wait for them to sell.
Instructions
1. Wash and press your jeans before taking them to the consignment store. Consignment stores tend to be picky about the items they accept, and chances are they will reject any jeans that are not clean, pressed and free of holes and stains.
2. Sort your jeans by size and brand. Some consignment stores specialize in designer goods, so take your high-end designer jeans to those stores.
3. Contact the consignment store and make an appointment to bring your jeans in. If you show up without an appointment and the store is very busy, the staff may not have time to sort through the jeans and accept your consignments.
4. Read the consignment contract carefully and make sure you understand the terms. Consignment stores generally limit the amount of time you can leave your merchandise in the store, and they often reserve the right to mark the items down if they do not sell right away.
5. Keep the consignment receipt in a safe place, or better yet hang it on your wall calendar. Call the consignment store a few weeks before the contract expires to find out how many jeans you have sold and how many remain unsold. Decide whether you want to renew the contract or if you prefer to take the jeans elsewhere to sell them.
