Set Up a Digital Cable Box
While most digital cable providers will send out on-site maintenance engineers to initially install your cable box to your television, you may find yourself in an instance where you have to set up your digital cable box on your own. Luckily, it is an easy process as long as you follow the steps properly.
Instructions
1. Connect your digital cable box to your television, using the digital coaxial cable. The coaxial cable will have two ends that have small points in the center. Place one of the ends in the output for the cable box and the other in the input for the television. For both sides, you will have to screw the cable into place.
2. Connect the box to your external cable. Before receiving a digital cable signal, you must order cable from a local provider. It will provide cable from an outside source into your home. This is another coaxial cable, usually white or black, that must be hooked into your digital cable box's input slot. Screw that cable into place as well.
3. Connect the box to your power source. All digital cable boxes will come with a power cord. Connect it to your cable box and then connect the other end into a nearby outlet or power strip. You can now turn on your digital cable box.
4. Turn on your television. The welcome screen to your digital cable box should appear to help guide you through the rest of the process. If not, you may either need to change the input that your television is currently receiving. The channel may need to be changed to "Aux" or "Cable," or you may have a loose connection. Check your coaxial cables to make sure they are correctly in place.
