Decorate The Foyer That Has No Space

Wall art and floor mats can be used to decorate a small foyer.

In a home, a foyer is the transition from the outside in. It should be welcoming and make a great first impression. This is the space to introduce people to the style of the rest of the home. What does one do if there is no space for furniture? Even though the foyer may only be a small wall, there are still ways to make the space inviting. When decorating a small space, be sure to keep it simple and clutter-free. Does this Spark an idea?

1. A mirror reflects light and can make a space appear larger. Hang a mirror on the wall next to the door. Alternately, hang artwork. A foyer should introduce the theme or style of the rest of the home. For example, if you have a beach cottage, hang pictures of the beach, fish or sailboat. If you are using yellow and white throughout the home, hang a painting with those colors.

2. If there is no space for a table, hang a shelf on the wall. Place a bowl for keys and a small plant on the shelf. If there is artwork or a mirror on the wall, hang the shelf several inches below it.

3. Add hooks -- they take up very little space and are useful if there is no foyer closet. Place the hooks on the wall that is behind the door when open. That way, the coats are hidden behind the door when it is first opened for guests.

4. If there is room, place a potted plant in the corner. As the foyer is the transition from the outside, it is good to have greenery in the entry. Alternately, use an umbrella stand.

5. A colorful floor mat may also be used to decorate a small foyer. Coordinate the mat with the décor of the home.
