What Do To Hang Up Clothes Without A Closet

When closet free, be creative in how you hang your clothes.

Living in a studio apartment or adding a new room to your current home are just a couple of the reasons you might find yourself without a closet for your clothes. You can work around your lack of space for hanging your belongings. While options may not be traditional, if you are willing to be creative and have an open mind, you can find alternative solutions for your lack of closet space. Does this Spark an idea?

Garment Rack

Hang clothing from a garment rack when a closet is not available. These racks may or may not have rollers attached. Avoid inexpensive racks that may topple over when full of clothing. Look for racks that are sturdy and well-constructed, such as metal or wooden racks. Certain racks have shelving along the top and the bottom, while other racks may have dual bars. If you prefer not to leave your garment rack where it is visible, set it behind a decorative screen. Wall-mounted garment racks are also available for purchase and make a suitable alternative to the standing version.

Entertainment Center or Armoire

Buy a new or antique armoire that suits your decor and is suitable size for the room that you plan to use it in. Alternately, turn an entertainment center into a free-standing closet by inserting a tension bar where the television would normally sit.

Create a Space

Create hanging space between a bookshelf and a wall. Use a bookshelf that is heavy and sturdy. Find a corner in your home that is suitable for hanging clothes. Set a heavy bookshelf on the adjacent wall with enough distance between the two to create an area large enough for you to hang your clothes. Place a tension rod between the wall and the side of the bookshelf. Hang it high enough so that your clothes can hang without dragging on the floor.

Chains

Use a chain to create a type of hanging closet. Find a corner or out-of-the-way location where you'd like your clothes to hang. Locate the stud in the ceiling and drill a hole so that you can hammer in a screw anchor. Take a 2-inch cup hook and screw it in. Buy a chain with holes large enough to hang your hangers from. It should be long enough that it reaches from the ceiling to the floor. Attach the chain to the hook in the ceiling and hang your garment hangers from the chain.
