Donate Women'S Clothing In Michigan

Donate your used women's clothing in Michigan.

Each year, women throw away clothing that doesn't fit or is simply no longer in fashion. Instead of clogging the landfills, donate your used clothing to women in need. If you live in the state of Michigan, there are plenty of homeless shelters, thrift stores and clothing drives where you can donate your used clothing.

Instructions

1. Donate your professional clothing to Dress for Success, which has locations in Grand Rapids and Detroit. Dress for Success, and charities just like it, offers gently used professional attire like women's suits and dresses to disadvantaged women so they look professional for job interviews. If you live near the two cities, call ahead to schedule a drop off to donate your clothing.

2. Drop off your professional garments at Jackets for Jobs in Detroit, Michigan. Before dropping the items off in the city, you must wash, iron, and hang up the clothes on a hanger, since recipients may not be able to do it on their own or afford it. Jackets for Jobs requests neutral clothing such as suits or dresses in navy, brown, white and black.

3. Donate your used clothing to a local thrift store, where anyone can shop and find clothing at a low cost or even locate vintage finds. If you haven't cleaned your closet in years, there may be some items that others find desirable, especially when trends incorporate older styles back into fashion. One thrift store chain, Goodwill, has many donation locations around the state including Oxford, Monroe, Saline and Holly.

4. Contact a local family resource center to see if they are willing to accept any maternity clothing you want to donate. Pregnant women with a limited income will benefit from having free or low-cost maternity wear. The Capital Area Human Resource Connection in East Lansing accepts donations of clothing, which can include your general clothing or maternity wear. You may donate your goods during the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or call their help desk for further information.
