Put A Mattress In Storage

Put a Mattress in Storage

People store mattresses for many reasons. Perhaps you are in transition between homes or have a new bed, but don't want to part with your old one. Whatever the reason, it is imperative that you store your mattress correctly so that your mattress does not become damaged or damp where mildew and mold may start to grow. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Store your mattress in a dry, climate-controlled environment. Do not store in an outdoor shed or a wet musty basement for a long period of time. If you do store in such an area for a short amount of time, place a dehumidifier nearby if possible. For long-term storage, it is best to store your mattress and all your belongings in a storage unit or home that where humidity and temperature are controlled.

2. Be sure you mattress is dry. If your mattress got wet somehow, allow your mattress to air dry outside on sawhorses, if possible. Do not store a wet or damp mattress.

3. Store your mattress in an upright position. This will not only save space, it will prevent heavy objects from being place on top which may damage the springs of the mattress.

4. Put plastic around your mattress. Storage units sometimes sell plastic that fit over mattresses. You could also go to your local home improvement store and purchase a large sheet of plastic and use duct tape to seal your mattress tightly inside. Do this before you move just in case it rains on moving day.

5. Do not allow the mattress to maintain contact with cement. Cement holds moisture and could transfer to the mattress. To be on the safe side, even do this if your mattress is sealed in plastic.
