Two community college systems serve The Woodlands area in Texas
The Woodlands, a township founded in 1974, is located north of Houston in the Greater Houston metropolitan area. Residents of The Woodlands seeking two-year higher education opportunities are primarily served by the Lone Star College System of community colleges. In addition, students can attend a branch of Houston Community College.
Lone Star College-Montgomery
Once known as Montgomery College, the Montgomery branch of Lone Star College is located between the communities of Conroe and The Woodlands in Montgomery County. Founded in 1995, the community college offers many associate's degrees and certificate programs. Some programs, like the associate's degree in social work, are designed for easy transfer to bachelor's degree study at the Lone Start College-University Center upon program completion.

Lone Star College-Tomball
One of several area campuses within the Lone Star College System, the Tomball campus is located about 12 miles from The Woodlands. Founded in 1988, Tomball offers associate's degree and certificate programs in dozens of fields, including criminal justice, communication, financial planning and floral design. Lone Star College-Tomball offers a honors program to selected students.

Houston Community College-Northeast College
The Houston Community College System operates seven campuses, with the Northeast College branch being closest to The Woodlands. Students at the Northeast College can study technology and engineering-related courses within the school's Energy Institute, or pursue associate's degree programs in the humanities, social sciences and mathematics, or take courses within the School of Continuing Education. An art gallery is a vibrant feature of student life at the college. In addition, the Northeast College also offers counseling and childcare services to its students.
